Listen to your customers

In all the B-schools of the world, the first lesson that we learn is that customer is king. We should listen to customers. Yet it is very often easier said than done. When we have devised a business plan with a set way of implementing it, customer input can very often be disruptive. We don’t want to listen to customers. Yet, they are our target market and here are four ways you can listen to them better.

  1. Customer Surveys

You should be able to do your survey to specifically answer questions to improve your business. And so, always ask ways on how to structurally improve your product. Ask about their overall experience, their expectations and the results they got. Through this framework, you are equipped to update your product more appealingly. This is important after your product hits the market for updating it.

  1. Focus Groups

It is always wise to invest in a market research company which can conduct good focus group research. These are important before the launch of your product so that you can make major changes necessary before it hits the market. This is also a great way to gauge the expected response for your product.

  1. Internet Surveys

These are often the best ways to conduct surveys. What happens is that not only do you reach your customers; you also reach potential customers and get insight on why they are not your customers yet. Not only are these extremely easy to make and circulate, the fact that you get your data instantly in a form that can be quickly analysed makes these super effective tools for listening to your customers.

  1. Observe Your Customers

This is an indispensable tool. Always make an effort to go out to where your potential customers are shopping and observe their behaviour. Make sure to notice the small things. Which products do they choose to pick up? Which products do they completely ignore and walk away from? What do they discuss with the person they are shopping with, if they are with someone, regarding your products? Through this, you can gauge unguarded immediate responses to your product and work on ways to make your business better.

What you can do for listening to your customers range from a direct approach to observation standing by. All these methods are important and you will be wise for utilising them for improving your business.
